Mr. Francis Benson “Ben” Allen, 81, of Old 29 Hwy, Hartwell, passed away Wednesday, April 8, 2020 at AnMed Health Medical Center.
Born on February 7, 1939 in Hartwell, GA, he was the son of the late Henry Grady Allen and Mabel Hembree Allen. Mr. Allen was a former tool & dye machinist for 49 years with Monroe-Tenneco Automotive. Mr. Allen was also a member of Oak Bower Baptist Church where he was a former deacon, choir member, and a member of the Brotherhood. He also loved to garden and spend time with family.
Survivors include his wife: Mary Sue Williford Allen; two sons: Billy Allen (Betty) and Henry Allen, all of Hartwell; one daughter: Sheila Fineza (Doug) of Hartwell; two sisters: Imogene A. Bouchillon of Anderson and Fay A. Vanadore of Starr, SC; four grandchildren: Heather Shields (Chris), Malarie Foust (Nathan), Branson Allen (Heather), and Hannah Allen; four great grandchildren: Jacob Foust, Katelyn Foust, Sophia Shields, and Eden Shields; one sister-in-law: Mary Ann Allen; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Allen is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers: Harold Allen and Fred Allen.
Because of the current conditions concerning the health and well-being of our community, the family will not be having a formal visitation. They ask that everyone keep them in their thoughts and prayers in the coming days and weeks.
Ben will lie in state at the Strickland Funeral of Hartwell from 9:00 am to 5:00 p.m. Friday for anyone to come by and pay their respects. Also anyone can leave their condolences and best wishes on Ben’s Tribute page by going to www.stricklandfh.com.
Graveside services for Mr. Ben Allen will be held Saturday, April 11, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. in the Oak Bower Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Tommy Cleveland officiating. Everyone will be asked to practice Social Distancing and may want to bring a lawn chair or is welcome to remain in their vehicles.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Oak Bower Baptist Church 1589 Old 29 Hwy, Hartwell, GA 30643.
The Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell is in charge of all arrangements.
