A graveside service for Matthew John Thompson of Yamhill will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in Mt. Olive Cemetery, Laurel.

The chapel of Macy & Son Funeral Directors, McMinnville, will be open for viewing from 4 to 7 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday.

Mr. Thompson died Aug. 21, 2001, at his home. He was 25.

He was born Aug. 28, 1975, in Hillsboro, the son of Gina Smith Dethlefs and Gary Thompson. He attended schools in Hillsboro and Vernonia, then attended Yamhill-Carlton High School.

After working in the woods as a logger for about seven years, he went to work for Forest Text forest production company in Forest Grove. He was a student firefighter with the Yamhill Fire Department. He enjoyed his friends and family. He also enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and cars.

Survivors include his mother of Yamhill; his father of Hillsboro; a sister, Brooke Morrison of Hillsboro; and a brother, Rick Thompson, also of Hillsboro.
