"When Dad's (Joseph Leander Kimes) children left Arkansas and moved to California, they lived with Bill and Lettie and made that their home until they married. They often referred to Bill as Dad. This hurt our Dad's feelings very much. I don't think the children realized it, or they would not have referred to Bill as Dad in their own father's presence. Bill and Lettie were both very jovial people. Our Dad was a very quiet person."
