Research shows Ann's mother, Rebecca Cadwallader, was possibly first married to William Done 1837. Ann was born on 7Mar1838 in Shropshire England. Rebecca became a widow at some point soon after. Family rumor has it that Will had been a drunk. Rebecca then married my great-great grandfather, George Edge II, in 02May1841 when Ann was three. At that point, I assume George Edge adopted Ann and her "maiden" name became Edge.
In 1849, Ann immigrated to the US with her mom and two of her siblings. George had immigrated the year before to get established before bringing the family to America.
Ann married Leroy Abbott 16Feb1858 in Kentucky where George Edge was working for Daniel Hillman at the Empire Iron Works in Trigg County, KY. He was a Superintendent at the rolling mills.
In 1861, Rebecca and her family, including Ann & Leroy, fled by flat boat up the Cumberland River up to Ft Smithland, KY, so the men in the family would not be forced to fight for the Confederate Army as they were Northern sympathizers. Her son, Leroy McClelland Abbott was born on the flat boat during their escape.
Ann & Leroy eventually moved to Madelia MN. Leroy died in 22Apr1885 and is buried in Riverside Cemetery in Madelia MN with their son Willie who had drowned in the Watonwan river near Madelia MN as a teen.
Ann moved to California where her three surviving children had moved to.
