She was born on October 14, 1924 in Topeka, Kansas, a daughter of the late Bernard and Helen (Stephens) Wiss.
She graduated from Joliet Township High School in Joliet, Illinois, in 1942.
On October 16, 1948, she married Darwin Fitzer at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Joliet, Illinois. The couple resided in the Joliet area after their marriage and moved to the Sheboygan area in 2006.
Betty held several positions during her career including administrative assistant at Argonne National Laboratory in Illinois from which she retired in1984.
Her husband preceded her in death on April 13, 2009.
She was a former member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and St. Jude's Catholic Church, both in Joliet, IL.
Betty enjoyed golfing, sewing, bird-watching, volunteering, and enjoyed loving time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Survivors include three children: Pam Fitzer (Larry Siegert) of Plymouth, Cynthia (Joel) Huener of Middle River, MN and Steven Fitzer of Haslett, MI; six grandchildren: Juliane (Rob) Rohs of Louisville, CO, Danielle (Jon) Goldstein of Littleton, CO, Ben (Amber) Huener of Roseau, MN, Sarah Huener of St. Paul, MN, Emma and Morgan Fitzer of Haslett, MI; seven great grandchildren: Benn, Matthew and Kate Rohs, Eli and Vivienne Goldstein and Abram and Avril Huener.
Betty is also survived by other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Berna, and three brothers, Bud, Gene and Bill.
