PRAIRIE DU SAC - Lester G. Gavol, age 82, of Prairie du Sac, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, Oct. 13, 2005, at Maplewood Nursing Home in Sauk City. He was born on Sept. 24, 1923, in the town of Sumpter, the son of the late Sebastian and Cecil (Francis) Gavol. He was united in marriage to Iris Mellentine on Sept. 24, 1955. Iris and Lester just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on his 82nd birthday. Lester lived in Prairie du Sac most of his life. He was a laborer of local union No. 464 for more than 30 years, as well as being employed by Welch Well Drilling and Home Tech. Lester enjoyed playing cards with his friends at the Antique Tap or with anyone who would be up for a game. He loved to watch baseball, especially the Sauk Prairie Twins. Lester is survived by his wife, Iris; three children, Panda (Denny) Reuter, Sue Gavol and Jon (Andrea) Gavol, all of Sauk Prairie; six grandchildren, Jeremy (Katie Deneen) Gavol, Jordan (Megan Kalsow) Gavol, Jenalee Breunig, Jianna (Josh Parks) Breunig, Mariah Anderson and Kassie Gavol; a great-grandchild, Bradley Breunig; a sister, Adalaide Zech; a sister-in-law, Rose Melentine; a brother-in-law, Edward Seitz; several nieces, and nephews; and his beloved buddy, T-Bone. In addition to his parents, Lester was preceded in death by a brother, Lyman; and a sister, June. As per Lesters wishes there will be no services. Memorials may be given to the Sauk City Ballpark. Lester's family would like to thank the many doctors, especially Dr. Koch, who cared for him and the nurses and staff at Maplewood Nursing Home who helped make his last days comfortable.
