Robert "Bucky" Russell Hileman, 79, formerly of Yakima, Washington, passed away on March 17, 2002, at United General Hospital in Sedro- Woolley, Washington.
Born September 11, 1922, in Cameron, Missouri, to Meryl and Jennie Demaray Hileman, he was one of six children. Mr. Hileman graduated from Cameron High School in 1941. As a young man, he boxed and won the Golden Glove Tournament 7 times in the Midwest and was mentioned in Ring Magazine, a periodical on boxing. He was attending college in Chicago, IL. when Pearl Harbor was bombed and enlisted in the Navy soon after, serving in the Philippines and the South Pacific. After the war, he resumed his education, graduating from the University of Kansas in Physical Therapy. Mr. Hileman married Mary Elizabeth Astle on August 8, 1948, in Leavenworth, Kansas. He worked at the Thompson Clinic in St. Joseph, Missouri, for a number of years before moving to Yakima, Washington, in 1960 with his young family. In 1982, he took a job in Anchorage, Alaska, a place he had dreamed of seeing. He retired about 1987, and in 1993, returned to Yakima to live until 1998, when he moved to the Seattle area to be nearer two of his daughters. Mr. Hileman had been a member of the Toastmasters International and Yakima County's Search and Rescue. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hiking, fishing, camping, rock hounding, rattle snake hunting and scuba diving.
Mr. Hileman leaves four daughters: twins Jennifer Hileman-Keep of Everett, WA, Susan Hileman of Seattle, Elizabeth (Libby) Summers of Redmond, OR and Jill Hileman-Beecham of Petaluma, CA. One sister Eleanor Kessler of Cameron, MO. Two granddaughters, Vickie Thompson of Walla Walla, WA and Nicole Hileman-Beecham of Petaluma, CA. One great granddaughter Simone Spencer-Thompson of Walla Walla, WA. He was preceeded in death by a daughter, Linda Lou Hileman in 1970. Also his four brothers Ralph, Ronald, H.M. (Bill) and Raymond, (Gus) Hileman.
The family suggests memorials to the Alzheimer's Association or Alzheimer's Disease Research. A memorial service is planned for at a later date. Cremation under the direction of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley, WA.
