George Sauer was born in Hes Dar Germany and came to the U.S. in 1863. He settled in Montgomery Co., Ohio and married Melissa Cain. They started a family, having 2 sons, and 5 daughters. They moved to Sumner Co KS in the 1880's. Their oldest son John, and daughter Susannah remained in Ohio. Wife Melissa and daughter Eliza both passed away in 1887. Daughter Martha L. Spohr died while giving birth in 1903. George did re-marry to Mary, sometime after 1895. George was a farmer and grain dealer.
