Maple Cemetery itself began as 'Arlington Cemetery' in 1865 primarily for Union soldiers. A military cemetery being more suited for Leavenworth, Arlington was given back to the Bluejacket Family with a new name 'Argentine/Junction Cemetery' and remained such until the late 1800's. Then, in 1905, a cemetery association renamed it Maple Hill Cemetery Inc. And that was when the Argentine and Junction cemeteries became sections within Maple Hill Cemetery, bordering S. 34th St (see map).
