BARRE – Alleen Elizabeth ("Betty") Jacobs, 95, widow of Jamie E. Jacobs, died April 24, 2008, after a brief illness. She was born in Ekalaka, Mont., in 1912, daughter of Frank and Margaret Rose (McCarty) Thompson. Survivors include her son, Dr. Jamie J. (Jean Pillsbury) Jacobs, Lexington, Ky.; grandsons J. Scott (Lydia) Jacobs, of Nicholasville, Ky.; Michael E. (Teri) Jacobs, Mason, Ohio; three great-grandchildren (Alex, Arden and Emory Jacobs); and a brother, Harry A. Thompson of Lower Cabot; as well as several nieces and nephews. She lived in Vermont, South Barre and Colchester, until 1987 when she and her husband moved to Lexington, Ky. She held various leadership positions in homemaker associations, senior citizen clubs, the Vermont Association of Snow Travelers (VAST) and was active in the Republican Party. She enjoyed sewing and cooking (her favorites can be found in "Betty's Cookbook"). In lieu of flowers, she requested memorials be made to God's Pantry (1685 Jaggie Fox Way, Lexington, KY 40511) or the Lexington Humane Society (1600 Old Frankfort Pike, Lexington, KY 40508),
