Charles Nagel had a narrow escape from being killed last Thursday morning when his automobile went over a steep embankment on the Westville and Urbana Road just east of Mad River. When he was extricated it was found that both collar bones were broken and his entire body was badly mashed and bruised although there were no serious injuries. He is recovering nicely and it will be but a few days until he is able to be about.

1933
Charles F Nagel, 73 one of the most prominent residents of this community died suddenly at 9:00 Saturday evening at his farm 3 miles southeast of St Paris. Mr Nagel had abeen in good health until the day prior to his death when he complained of a slight illness. He arose Saturday morning to attend to his usual duties but was overcome by faintness. After receiving medical attention he rested quietly while his wife resumed her household duties. Mrs Nagel a few minutes later, found him lifeless. His death was attributed to heart disease. Mr Nagel was a stone and brick mason by trade, contracting construction work in this community. Injuries sustained several years ago had compelled him to follow other lines of business. At the time of his death he was manufacturing and selling various items of novelties. He moved to his late home more than 50 years ago and was a member of the Universalist Church. If there was an outstanding characteristic in Mr Nagels life, it was cheerfulness. Unusually alert for a many his age, he always met one with a smile and his greeting "Hello Neighbor". Mr Nagel took a deep interest in every enterprise that was for the betterment of the community and frequently would go far out of his way to give aid financially and otherwise for those things which he deemed a worthy cause. His passing is a distinct loss.
