from the St. Mary's Star (St. Marys, KS) May 23, 1901 (Thursday):
Mrs. A.M. Drury Ends Her Life.
"Mrs. A.M. Drury who lived with her husband and two daughters on the Hooper farm 6 miles north of Belvue was found dead in the garret of her home last Saturday morning at 11 a.m. Her husband and daughters had gone to Belvue to do some trading and returning at 11 o'clock, found Mrs. Drury hanging to a rafter in the garret. A heavy cord was used. The coroner was summoned, and the jury empaneled Saturday evening, found that the deceased had came [sic] to her death by choking. The circumstances of the case would indicate suicide, and yet no cause can be assigned for so rash an act, as Mrs. Drury apparently was in good health and spirits and had but recently returned from an extended visit with relatives in Iowa, and if she did end her life, she must have been temporarily insane at the time. The funeral obsequies were conducted Sunday at the home and the interment was in the Belvue cemetery. The deceased was 55 years of age and came to St. Marys from Missouri about two years ago and later moved to near Belvue. Besides a husband, she leaves five grown daughters, Mrs. Bowlby of Kiowa county, Mrs. John and Mrs. Wm. Mondt and Misses Florence and Jane who live at home. To the bereaved family, we extend sincere sympathy and condolences."
