Services for Ronald C. Smith, 65, of Lorenzo were held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, May 11, 1998, at the Lorenzo First Baptist Church with the Rev. Namiqa Shipman, pastor of Lorenzo First United Methodist Church, officiating.

Burial was in the Lorenzo Cemetery under direction of Adams Funeral Home of Lorenzo.
He died at 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 9, 1998, at Lubbock's Methodist Hospital.

He was born April 19, 1933, in Lubbock. He married Glenna Marlar on May 25, 1954 in Lorenzo. He was a member of the Lorenzo First United Methodist Church. He was a graduate of Lorenzo High School and Texas Tech, where he was a charter member of the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. He was a farmer and a partner in Lor-Tex Agency Realtors and Appraisal.

He was a member of the Lorenzo City Council, Chamber of Commerce, Lorenzo Lions Club, Jaycees, the Lorenzo Co-Op Gin Board, the High Plains Water Board and the Lorenzo Country Club.

He was named Lorenzo's "Outstanding Citizen" in 1992. He lived in Lorenzo all his life, except for 3 years when he lived in Corpus Christi. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was also a former member of the Lorenzo School Board.

A son, Kyle Smith preceded him in death on April 9, 1993.

Survivors include his wife, Glenna Smith of Lorenzo; a son, Kelly Smith of Lorenzo; a brother, Edward S. Smith of Lorenzo; and a sister, Mary Jo Smith of Lorenzo.
