William Malone, IV 6-15, Son of William Malone, III 5-4

William Malone, IV 6-15 follows in the lineage given to us by Lucille Gibson Pleasant, Malone genealogist of the 1930's, who did extensive work on this line. The research of James Henry Malone about 1895 has also been carefully reviewed. Additional work was done by Mrs. B. R. Wofford and Stith Malone Cain. More recently, certified genealogist Phyllis Heiss, a Daniel Malone descendant, has added new research.

William Malone, IV 6-15 (2-6-1771 VA - 1-1-1850) m. Johana Perkins (12-6-1772 - 2-14-1837) Although many have believed William IV 6-15 lived in Dinwiddie Co, this author has found no records to substantiate this. As noted previously, his father, William Malone 5-4 lived in Sussex Co, VA even though he owned property in Dinwiddie Co. In records there he is shown as "William Malone of Sussex Co." All the William Malones of Dinwiddie Co, VA are dealt with in the chapter "The Dinwiddie County Malones", and the interested reader is referred there. More likely, William Malone is found in Sussex Co, along with his father, William Malone 5-4. The Virginia 1 787 census shows only one William Malone in Sussex Co. with no white males living with him between the ages of 16-21, which would be in keeping with William Malone IV, who would have reached 16 years of age that year. The 1810 census shows William Malone, (over 45) and William Malone, Jr. aged 26-45 with 2 males under 10 and 4 females under 10, with 1 female 2 6-45. This is most likely William Malone, IV 6-15. By the 1 820 census, only one William Malone is in Sussex Co, and he is noted to be 45 or over with a wife 45 or over, and one female 10-16 in the home. This, again, is most likely William Malone IV 6-15. By the 1830 census William Malone is seen in Sussex Co. aged 60-70, (He was about 60 the year of this census), with a wife 50-60, and a male and female both 20-30 in the household. William Malone, IV 16-15 had moved before the 1840 census, as no William Malones are found in Sussex Co. in that year. His Known descendants: [1, 10, 11 , 594i]

7-29 Mary Polly Malone (2-14-1788 Sussex Co, VA - 6-4-1852 Madison Co, AL) m. Benjamin Ellis See Below.

7-30 Thomas Hill Malone (8-6-1794 VA - 8-21-1869 Waco, TX), son of William Malone IV 6-15 m. in VA 11-29-1815 Elizabeth Tucker Malone (12-21-1798 Sussex Co, VA - 8-11-1856 Limestone Co, AL) See Below.

7-30a Daniel Malone (Possible son.) Joseph S. Malone 8-__, son of Thomas Hill Malone 7:-30, wrote in an 1885 letter to his nephew James H. Malone, "Am certain, according to my best memory, that my father had no brother by the name of George. Am equally, or more certain that he did have one by the name of Daniel." [604m, p 7] In the early genealogical studies of James Henry Malone, several other children were noted, and Mary Polly Malone was not included. These other children were William, Harper, Benjamin, Joseph , Lucretia and Martha. In the chapter "The Dinwiddie Malones" we have discussed Harper, Benjamin, and Joseph, and have indicated what we believe is their parentage and the reasons. In large part, Lucille G. Pleasant picked up some of these names in h er lineage. We have shown in that chapter, for example, how Harper Malone could not be included in this list, and Dinwiddie records reflect the fact that Benjamin Malone was a brother of Harper.

Mary "Polly" Malone 7-29, dau. of William Malone IV, 6-15
(From the research of Catherine McBirnie Griffin [594u, 594v])

Mary " Polly" Malone 7-29 (2-14-1788 Sussex Co, VA - 6-4-1852 Madison Co, AL), dau of William Malone IV 6-1 5 , m. in VA Benjamin Ellis IV (5-2-1784 VA - 9-30-1853 Madison Co, AL), son of Benjamin & Anne (Tomlinson) Ellis III. No marriage record has been found, but her marriage has been ascertained from various sources.[1;9o, p 159; 10; 11; 594i, 594u] The family is found in the 1810 Sussex Co, VA census, but they had moved to AL around 1818. Found in Madison Co, AL in 1830 census and thereafter through 1850. Benjamin Ellis witnessed along with Harper Malone 6-107 the will of Harper's brother Benjamin Malone 6-108. [Alabama Records Vol. 48, p 36] Benjamin Malone and Benjamin Ellis were joint trustees of the Methodist Church in Madison Co, AL. Mary and Benjamin Ellis are buried in the Ellis Cem, Madison Co, AL. She stated Thomas H . was born in Dinwiddie Co, VA, and that his oldest son William Thomas Malone was named for his Malone grandfather (William) and for his father (Thomas).[604m, p 5] She also stated that Thomas Hill Malone "was married to his cousin Elizabeth Tucker Malone." [604m, p 2] This could only refer to William Malone 6-1 5 of Sussex Co, VA, who owned property in both Sussex and Dinwiddie Co, and probably lived back and forth, though his official residence was in Sussex Co, where he was counted in the census and tax records.

George Malone 6-16, Son of William Malone 5-4

George Malone 6-1 6 is found for the first time in Sussex Co, VA records in the 1810
census aged 16-26 with 1 male under 10, and two females under 10 and a wife 16-26. The 1820 census finds him again in Sussex Co. aged 26-45 with a wife 16-26, 2 males under 10, 1 male 10-16, and 1 female under 10. [66b] He was in Limestone Co., AL with other Sussex and Dinwiddie Co. Malone contemporaries in the 1830 census. This would indicate he was born about 1784. These census records confirm the research of Lucille G. Plea, nts, Mrs. B. R. Wofford and Stith Malone Caln, [10, p 102] which indicates the following:

George Malone 6-1 6 ( 10-13-1784 Sussex Co, VA - 8-16-1847 Limestone Co, AL) m. 1st in Essex Co, VA 12-23/25-1807 Martha (" Patsy") Chambliss (7-15/16-1788 - 9-12-1814), dau of Nathaniel Chambliss (2-4-1762 - 1-15-1811) and Mary ___ (b. 4-16-1764) [8, Vol. 2 , p 29] m. 2nd in Sussex Co, VA 6-1 2-18 16 Sally Moyler (7-16-1796 VA - 9-5-1844 Limestone Co, AL) [594r], dau of Capt. John Moyler. [610; 10, p. 102, 614c, p 85] A news article gives his death date as 8-25-1847. [612] George bought Sussex Co, VA land from Willlam Burge in 1814 [177a] and from P. M. Hobbs in 1819. [l 77b2] This land was sold in 1822 [l77b3, 177b4] and he moved to Limestone Co, AL between 1818 and 1822. [10, pp 102-103] His first land grant in Limestone Co, AL was 1818. [613] Although there are no records that this author is aware of to prove George Malone 6-16 to be a son of William Malone 5-4, there are none to suggest otherwise. He fits by age, location, tradition and association with other known sons. In addition, Ms. Pleasants and Wofford probably had other sources we are not aware of in giving this lineage. Contemporary genealogists in Limestone Co,
AL consider him to be William's son. He is thus included as a son of William Malone 5-4.

The only contradiction with their research is the fact that George Malone 6-16 probably did not come from Dinwiddie Co. and move ·back to Sussex Co. William Malone 5-4 was already living in Sussex Co., and the George Malone shown in the. Dinwiddie census in 1810 was unmarried, whereas this George Malone had married in 1807 and had three children by 1810, which is compatabile with the George Malone found in the 1810 Sussex Co, VA census. George and Sally are buried Cambridge Cem, Limes tone Co, AL.

A Summary; George Malone 6-1 6 ( 10-13-1784 Sussex Co, VA - 8-16-1847 Limestone Co, AL) m. 1st in Sussex Co, VA 12-2-1807 Martha Chambless; m. 2nd in Sussex Co, VA 6-1-1816 Sally Moyler (7-16-1796 - 9-5-1844). Martha died after 1st three children were born. Sally came with George to Limestone Co, AL in 1824. [1, Lure & Lore of Limestone Co., AL, p. 186] Detailed information on his family comes from the work of Stith Malone Cain and Lucille Pleasants [1, pp 20-29; 1 1] A news article gives George's dates as b. 10-13-1785 - d. 8-2 6-1847. Allison was tax collector for Limes tone Co, AL. [6 11, p 186] News article says Mary G. born 6-6-1810. [6 14c, p 85] Children: [61 4m, p 42] The George Malone family Bible shows Mary G. Malone b. 6-6-1810. [594r] The other date is from her gravestone.
