My granddaddy, John Dee Stevens, was born December 21, 1866 in Leon County where he met and married my grandmother, Ollie Copeland. Ollie, daughter of Stephen Warner and Sallie Ann Hubbard Copeland, was born Otober 18, 1872.

John Dee and Ollie had the following children: Adolphus Homer, Robert Leslie, Ethel May, Lorean, Guy Leonard and Myrtle Inez. My grandparents moved to Archer County from Leon County. Twins were born February 13, 1908 and died February 13, and 22. My grandmother died March 7, 1908 and the three are buried in Archer County. After Ollie's and the twins' death, John Dee came to Limestone County in a wagon with his six children where they lived on Whitcomb Ranch. The two oldest sons, Homer and Leslie, served in the United States Army during World War I in Europe.

My granddaddy left Whitcomb Ranch and moved to Fort Parker in 1920 where he was caretaker at the Glenwood Cemetery, what is now Fort Parker Memorial Park. At the time of his death in December, 1929, he owned and operated a grocery store at Fort Parker. He is buried in the cemetery that he took great pride in taking care of.

Homer, born March 1, 1892 and the oldest son, married Ethel Martin. They had five children. The surviving children are Bennie D. Stevens and Rosemary Osborn. Homer farmed until 1940 when he opened Stevens Grocery and Market on the Mart Highway. After his death, September 15, 1974, his son, Bennie, continued operating the business. January, 1984 Bennie and his wife, Betty, retired. They sold the store to their son, Don Stevens. Stevens Grocery and Market is one of the oldest existing businesses in Groesbeck.

Leslie, born November 13, 1893, married Eunice Crowson and they had five daughters, namely, Juanita, Marcile, Delores, Betty and Patsy. Leslie also farmed until going into the grocery business in Delia, Texas. He died August 18, 1945.

May, born March 6, 1896, married Clint Stricklin, a farmer. After his death in 1952, she moved to Dallas with her surviving child, Norman and his family. May died December 22, 1963 at her home in Dallas and is buried beside her husband in the Fort Parker Memorial Park.

Lorean, born February 16, 1899, married Murry Boykin and to this union were born two children, Evelyn and Evin. She died in 1921 at Lufkin, Teexas, where she is buried, when Evin was an infant. Evelyn and Evin lived with their Aunt May and Uncle Clint Stricklin for seven years until their father remarried and they moved to West Texas.

Guy, born December 9, 1901, married Sarah Ellen "Sally" Thompson and they had two children, Madeline and Guy Jr. Sally died March 1, 1929. Guy worked for Campbell Lumber Yard until 1941 when he moved to Pearland, Texas. He had married Bertha Mae Harvey in 1936. He owned and operated a grocery store in Pearland until his death March 7, 1965. He is buried in Fort Parker Memorial Park beside his wife, Sally, and son, Guy Jr., who was killed in an automobile accident July 11, 1951.
