Born William Eugene Burbage. His mother remarried when he was 3 to Roy Dorsey Garrett.

William Eugene Garrett, age 91, passed from this life on Feb. 7, 2013 in Grove. William was born on March 2, 1921 in Bismarck, N.D. to Frederick E. Burbage and Myra Agnes Kneeland. After graduating from Washington High School in Brainerd, Ill., Mr. Garrett attended Illinois Teachers College. He was a State Champion Drum Major and Baton Twirler in both his senior year of high school and in college. Mr. Garrett married Marion Masoner on Feb. 11, 1945. They enjoyed 60 years of marriage before her passing on Oct. 19, 2005. William was a Specialty Sheet Metal Mechanical Layout Man. He was retired from Goettle Brothers Company in Phoenix, Ariz. Mr. Garrett was also a Veteran of the Army Air Corp. He served as a Timekeeper and Teletype Operator at the Japanese Concentration Camp in Parker, Ariz. William & Marion both loved to do crafts, especially for the children. They made dolls, benches, blankets and other craft items. William loved to whittle and create beautiful hand sheet metal artwork, sing, and play music. He loved to play the organ. When he could no longer play, he donated his organ to the Trinity Baptist Church in Grove.

Mr. Garrett is survived by one daughter: Billie Jean Crawford and husband Richard of Grove. One Son: Gary Eugene Garrett of Peoria, Ariz. William is also survived by seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

There will be a graveside memorial at 1 p.m. on Friday, March 22, 2013 at Green Acres Mortuary in Scottsdale, Ariz.
