Ina Frances Barnes died on APril 16, 1997 at the Springfield Health & Rehabilitation Center in Springfield, VT. She was born in Chester on August 7, 1901, the daughter of J. Myron and Edith (Johnson Robbins.

She attended schools in Chester and earned her teaching certificate in her senior year of high school. On July 26, 1924, she married Lewis S. Barnes of Andover. He died in September 1949.

She taught school in one-room schoolhouses for several years, including the Peasville and Simonsville schools in Andover.

After becoming a widow, she was a cook at several private schools in Massachusetts, including Clark School for the Deaf in Northampton, MA. During 13 summers, she was a cook at Eagle Camp in South Hero, VT. In later years she worked as a companion and housekeeper.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Chester since 1919. She was a charter member of the Andover Friendly Home Dem Club and an organizer of the Breezy Hills 4- H Club of Andover, of which she was a leader for several years. She was active in the Windsor County Republican Party and represented Andover it the Legislature in 1965. She enjoyed fishing and cooking.

Survivors include one daughter, Shirley Hale of Andover; one son, Albert Barnes of Chester; two sisters, Mabel Graham of Eastharnpton, MA, and Irma Broder of Naples, FL; nine grandchildren; fourteen great- grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was also predeceased by one grandson, Matthew Barnes in 1968.

A graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family in the Heald Cemetery in Andover.
