Billy Garland Raulston was born December 22, 1944, to Willie Garland and Mary Evelyn Raulston in Clarksville, Texas.  He had two siblings, Linda and Jeanie. The family lived in a 2 bedroom house in Nash until after Billy graduated high school. The girls had a bedroom, their parents had a bedroom, and Billy had a pull-out sofa that he slept on his entire childhood. His closet was in the hall. He had no personal space and turned out just fine! He graduated from Hooks High School in 1962.  He came to live with his Aunt Derrelline and Uncle Hub pretty soon after high school to seek employment.  He was an immediate hit with all the young ladies.  He had a hot car and was a "hunk" and never wanted for company!  He played rough with the 3rd and 4th graders (pulled Paula and Sandra by their feet around the house giving them major carpet burns on their backs), but he was fun, attracted tons of chicks, and allowed Paula and Sandra to give him a hard time.  While he was out, they'd go through his drawers, reading his love notes (from Phyllis), aggravating, and generally invading his privacy.  Paula remembers when he went off to Vietnam.  She couldn't say goodbye because she was too sad.  Phyllis says that hot car is why she married him because he used to leave it for her to run around in during the week sometimes.  She loved that car. Billy and Phyllis were married July 17th, 1965 in Texarkana, and then they moved to Fort Worth. Phyllis remembers when her Mom and Mary Evelyn came to see them in Fort Worth and saw where they lived in that big old house... they moved Billy and Phyllis to a new apartment that weekend. That house was a scary place over on Berry St.  They moved to an apartment over on Marigold in Fort Worth. The landlady was a fruit cake... Aunt Derrelline and Phyllis both agree on that one!  After Billy got drafted, they moved to Tacoma, Washington until he got sent to Vietnam. Billy was drafted into the Army in October of 1966.  He went to Vietnam in January, 1968 and his Army time ended in October 1968.  Phyllis was about a day or two pregnant (didn't know it of course) when Billy went to Vietnam, then 9 months later Shelly was born (September 29, 1968). Shelly was 5 weeks old the first time Billy got to see his first daughter - when he got to come home. He had gotten to see Phyllis while she was six months pregnant when she met him in Hawaii for R&R.  Derrelline had Sunday dinners, and she expected Billy and Phyllis to show up. During their marriage, Billy and Phyllis lived in Arlington, Texarkana, New Boston, Tacoma Washington and Clarksville.  When living in Clarksville, they lived on the Raulston homestead.
Their first child, Shelly Ann Raulston, was born September 29, 1968.  Their second child, Kristy Shaun Raulston, was born May 17, 1972.  Their third child, Bill Raulston, Jr. (we call him "Last Chance Bill" because he's the ONLY boy in the clan that can carry on this branch of the Raulston name!!!) was born December 24, 1975.

Trivia:

Noel story - Billy, Phyllis, and Aunt Derrelline were riding around looking at Christmas lights at Interlochen in Arlington admiring all the yard ornaments. After several blocks, Billy said, "I want to know who Noel is and why he's so popular at Christmas!" Aunt Derrelline laughed and laughed, and they had to explain to him that it was Noel - the French word for Christmas. We have laughed about that one over the years every time we see Noel.

Way back in his younger days, Stonewall Jackson was his favorite country singer. Stonewall first, Lefty Frizell, Merle Haggard, Kitty Wells, and Ferlin Huskey were also his favorites.

He taught first cousin, Sandra to shoot craps.

He taught first cousin, Paula how to play Poker. She never perfected that skill. He taught her how to shuffle cards like a professional.

He was known for his good looks and hot car...  a maroon 1964 Malibu supersport. Everyone in Nash and everyone in Arlington knew that car and who it belongs to...

Billy, Linda, and LeRoy stole diesel out of LeRoy's Daddy's tractor when they were kids. They hid it under a bridge until they could bring a car. They put the diesel in the car, and that car did not run well at all! That's what we got for stealing.

They would drive down Thrill Hill. One Sunday they were hanging at the cafe and they went with a guy they met that was in from college eating there - in his '55 Chevrolet. Down the hill they went, and the guy handed Linda his steering wheel. She handed it back to him. They went down the hill mowing down trees and barely made it out alive. Billy and LeRoy jumped out of that vehicle in a hurry!

LeRoy and Billy drank some of LeRoy's Mother's blackberry wine when they were under 15 years old. They were puking all over the bed and sicker than dogs. Ma Kingwell (Billy and Linda's maternal Grandma) told everyone what a bad virus they each had caught. Linda said Ma was gullible for sure!

The boys took LeRoy's Daddy's truck (Kenner was LeRoy's Dad's name) - they were coming from New Boston going to Nash (they were still living in Nash and Ben Edward was old enough to drive). No one else was... They rolled the truck and bent it up badly. It broke LeRoy's collarbone and Kenner was very upset. They didn't have permission to come to Nash and LeRoy was not supposed to drive.

Billy and Linda's Dad bought a brand new boat for Billy and Linda - a 14 or 16 foot fiberglas ski boat. They had fun in that boat! He moved it to Arlington when he moved there, and that boat sunk in Lake Arlington! It's probably still down there!
