World War I air ace
Oliver Johnson dies

Oliver Pruett Johnson, 73, who came here 50 years ago and retired in 1963 as president of the Arizona Cotton Oil Co., died Monday in his home, 366 E. Verde Lane.

Mr. Johnson was associated with Southwest Cotton Co. when he came here from Akron, Ohio, and formed Arizona Cotton Oil co. in 1922. He also engaged in ranching and farming until he retired.

He enlisted in the Army in 1917 and was assigned to the Royal Flying Corps at Ontario, Canada. He became an ace, shooting down five German planes while serving in Europe during Word War I with the 60th Squadron.

Mr. Johnson was a member of the Arizona Silver Wings of World War I, the O-X5 Club, Order of Daedalions, Arizona Club and Phoenix Country Club.

Born in Paragould, Ark., he attended high school in Little Rock, Ark., and was graduated in 1916 from Drake University Law School at Des Moines, Iowa.

Services will be at 3:30 p.m. tomorrow in A. L. Moore and Sons Mortuary, 333 W. Adams. Entombment will be in Greenwood Mausoleum.
