Bob “Pop” Longone, age 97, passed away on March 8, 2020.

Pop is proceeded in death by his father, Cecil Longone, his late wife Peggy Longone, and his son Donald Longone.

Pop is survived by his son Robert (Donna) Longone; his daughter Penny (Santos) Acevedo; 9 grandchildren, Jamie (Crystal), Shelly, Brandi (Abel), Kim, Misti (Paul), Michael (Angie), Robert (Terri), Justin (Jessica) and Peggy (Joe); 16 great grandchildren, Amber (Miguel), Kaden, Jimmy, David, Victoria, Maycie, Tony, Aj, Kamryn, Cory, Isabelle, Colton, Allison, Roen, Blake and Kennedi; and 1 great – great grandchild, Zachary.

Bob was a longtime resident of Bishop and to the community he was lovingly known as “Pop”.

Pop served in the Army during World War II. He was a certified fire fighter with NAS Kingsville for 26 years as well as volunteer with Bishop Fire Department.  Pop was involved in volunteer work for over 50 years.

Pop was the Director and Trainer of the Bishop/Kingsville First Aid Teams that he began in 1959 till 1986 with training over 300 teenage volunteers. He was a volunteer First Aid instructor for the American Red Cross, an emergency first aid team unit for the state, as well as a CPR instructor for the American Red Cross. Pop also volunteered and assisted setting up the update in the EMS program for EMS Ambulance crews of Texas along with having a stand by team for local/long distance football games and the Rodeos in Kingsville.

The extended volunteer work of Bob “Pop” Longone has had a great impact on the Bishop and surrounding area communities.

Pop had an amazing life filled with so many accomplishments, hundreds of friends, family, travel and lots of love. Pop will always be remembered for his love and dedication to his family and his community.

Pop was surrounded by his family in his last moments and went to dance in the sky with the love of his life, Peggy. Rest easy, Pop. We will love and miss you always!

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 11, 2020, from 5 to 9 PM at Turcotte-Piper Mortuary in Kingsville. Funeral Service will be held Thursday, March 12, 2020 at 10:00 AM at Turcotte- Piper Mortuary. Interment will follow at Restland Cemetery in Bishop, Texas.
