Funeral Services will be Wednesday, March 18, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall, with Rev. Dr. Dave Swinton officiating. Following the service, Mike will be cremated and burial of his cremains will be in the Linwood Park Cemetery at a later date.
Michael Lee Bennett was born in Boone, Iowa on April 19, 1947, the son of Leonard and Delia ‘Dixie’ Case. He graduated from Boone High School in Boone in 1964 where he was active in baseball and football and also attended Boone DMACC and played basketball.
For 43 years, Mike worked as a machinist for John Deere in Ankeny, retiring in 2010. He also worked at Quinn Machinery in Boone.
He enjoyed playing golf and bowling, especially League Bowling, around the area. Mike wanted to play golf at every course in Iowa and was always giving advice or tips to fellow golfers. He also enjoyed woodworking, making cabinets and refinishing, collecting antiques and attending the Iowa Hawkeyes Bowl Games with his brother, Kevin.
Most of all, Mike loved being with his family, especially his grandchildren and attending their events. Mike was often opinionated, determined, and had a Heart of Gold, willing to help anyone.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Karen.
Mike is survived by three sons, Jeff (Melissa) Bennett of Boone, Adam Bennett of Scranton, and Brian (Stacie) Bennett of Boone; daughter, Katherine Sutherland of Stillwater, Oklahoma; a brother, Kevin Bennett of Boone; nine grandchildren, Spencer Bennett, Paige (Josh) Crowder, Bailey (Nathan) Sprinkel, Morgan Bennett, Cody Bennett, Tasha (Aaron) Bahr, Jalen Lingren, Braeden Majors, and Alexandria Bennett; two great grandsons, Arlo and Abner Bahr; a special friend who helped Mike at home during his illness, Becky Sundall of Boone.
Friends may call at the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel on Tuesday from 3 until 8 p.m., where the family will be present from 6 until 8 p.m. Friends may also call on Wednesday at the chapel, from 8 a.m. until service time.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.
