Thomas J. Collins, 81, of Jamesville passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on Tuesday, February 16, 2016.
Born in Syracuse on September 24, 1934 he was the son of James and Genevieve Collins. He graduated from St. Vincent DePaul and Morrisville College. Thomas served in the Air Force Reserves. He worked for New York Telephone and retired from AT&T where he was a lineman and trouble shooter and was also a landlord, general contractor and heavy equipment operator.
Thomas was a member of the American Legion, he enjoyed dancing, fishing, canoeing and kayaking.
He was predeceased by his wife, Gloria Collins; son, John Collins; grandson, Brian Anastas; sons-in-law, John June and A. John Merola III. Surviving are his companion, Jane Acker; daughters, Carolyn (John) Hobbs, Joanne (Bob) June, Louanne (David) Collins, Tammi (Jerry) O'Brien and Monica Merola; sons, Thomas (Kathy) Collins Jr., Edward Collins, Joseph (Virginia) Collins, Stephen (Jennifer) Collins and Todd Aldrich; daughter-in-law Maryanne Collins; 27 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Barbara (Jack) Lake and Maryjane (Arnold) Merola; brothers, William (Susan) Collins and Michael (Donna) Collins.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, February 20, at 11 a.m. at Holy Cross Church, 4112 East Genesee St., DeWitt. Calling hours will be prior to the funeral service from 9 to 11 a.m. at the church.
Contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to Hospice of CNY or Holy Cross Church.
