Col Louis J. DuPre Laid to Rest Yesterday Afternoon
The remains of Col. Louis J. DuPre were interred at Elmwood Cemetery yesterday afternoon. The remains were brought in at 4 o'clock from Raleigh, and the friends of the deceased met the funeral procession at the medical college. From this place they proceeded to the cemetery, where services were held and flowers were placed on the grave of the old journalist by admiring friends. The statement that a surgical operation had been performed on Col. DuPre just previous to death was scarcely correct. The operation was performed several months ago.

The remains of the late Col. Louis J. DuPre were interred in Elmwood Cemetery yesterday afternoon, after brief but very impressive ceremonies, conducted by Rev. G.A. Nunnally pastor of the Central Baptist church. A number of the friends of the deceased, among them many of the older citizens, who had known him for a score or more of years were present, and floral tributes were plentiful and elaborate. The pall bearers were Messrs. M. C. Gallaway, J.C. Neely, N.M. Jones, R.J. Black, W.L. Trask, G.C. Matthews, J.D. Thompson and F.Y. Anderson.

Vicksburg Evening Post
Sept 9 1893
Col. Louis J. DuPre, American consul to San Salvador during Cleveland's first administration, and an editor of ability and extensive experience, died in memphis on the 28th Ult. Personally, Col. Dupre was a genial, companionable gentleman, broad-gauged and liberal in his ideas, and a Democrat of the old school. During our sojourn in Jackson last year he was a frequent caller at the Leader office, and we often felt the better for the contact with his frank, ardent nature. Col. DuPre was also a brother of Prof. J.G. DuPre of Mississippi College. Peace to his ashes and honor to his memory.
