Charles Ray Jones, 70, of Pine Bluff, died April 29, 1998, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center.

He was born on October 17, 1927, at Batesville, a son of the late Oscar Theodore and Vernia Mayhue Jones.

He was reared and received his early education at Batesville, Jacksonville and Pine Bluff. He graduated from White Hall High School and served in the Air Force. He worked for Simmons First National Bank for 42 years, retiring as an assistant vice president and branch manager at White Hall. He was a member of the Pine Bluff Jaycees and Pine Bluff Optimist Club.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Oscar Theodore Jones Jr.; and a sister, Maxine VanGelder.

Survivors include his wife, Billie Jean Morgan Jones, whom he married on July 21, 1950, at Pine Bluff; a son, Charles Ray Jones Jr. of Pine Bluff; two daughters Janet Scherm and Jerrie Townsend, both of Stuttgart; a brother, Lloyd Mayhue Jones of Statesboro, Georgia; and two grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Directors with the Rev. John Brock officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
