According to the newspaper article, Alex went to his ex-wife's house and they had a heated argument over alimony and finances. At some point, Alex produced a 38-caliber revolver and shot Virginia in the head with a single gunshot, then turned the gun on himself and committed suicide. Their 19-year old son Tom who was outside in front of the house at the time of the shooting said he heard four gunshots. He ran into the house and discovered his parents lying on the kitchen floor.
