Nancy Perle Ochiltree was born in Morning Sun, Iowa to John Thomas Ochiltree and Joanna Mertina Spalding. Her siblings were Herman B. Ochiltree, Mary Harriet Ochiltree Hunter, Thomas Howard Ochiltree, and Carl Jay Ochiltree. The family moved to Omaha, Nebraska sometime before 1887, and Perle ( as she was known) married Charles Cook Hungate on November 11, 1897. Charles was the son of Jehu Hale Hungate and Vesta Delinda Cook. Charles and Perle had 2 children - Paul Austin Hungate (1899) and Mildred Ann Hungate (1901). Tragically, Charles died in a workplace accident on January 30, 1907 leaving Perle a widow with two small children. To support the family, she taught art for a couple years before landing a job as a manager assistant at the Brandeis Theater Building in Omaha. Nine years later, she became manager of the Peters Trust Building and was the subject of an article on women executives in the local paper. She was a member of several organizations including the Altrusa Club, Chamber of Commerce, and the Building Owners and Managers Association. She lived for a time with her daughter, Mildred, son-in-law Earl Pulte and two grandsons. She moved to Washington, where her son Paul resided, between 1935 and 1940. On February 11, 1956 Perle fell at home and fractured her hip. This was an injury from which she did not heal. She died on March 17, 1956 in Seattle, Washington where she was cremated.
