Born February 26, 1923 in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, she was the daughter of Michael and Marjorie Rice McCarthy.
She is survived by her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, sister, brothers and sisters in law.
She is predeceased by her husband, parents, great granddaughter Alexa Aigner, and sister in law, Donna (Paul) Johnson.
Janet was an avid musician. She received her musical interest from her father, who was a musical vocal prodigy who travelled Europe as a child and was a veteran of the vaudeville and musical comedy stage. She graduated from Valley City High School in North Dakota in 1940. Janet played the Saxophone and was an accomplished pianist. She was a piano accompanist to her fellow performers and also sang in a girl's vocal trio and A cappella choir. She was in both band and orchestra as well as being in Dramatic Club, Glee Club and Operetta. Any song you wanted to hear, you just gave Janet the name and she would play it for you by ear. Janet continued to enjoyed playing piano throughout her life.
Janet earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from The College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, MN in 1944. That same year she married Willis Aigner who was about to deploy to England in the 8th Army Airforce, during World War II. She worked as a private duty nurse for several years until she joined Will in 1969 in the ownership and operation of Aigner's Diamond & Loan Brokers in Portland, Oregon. In 1974 they moved to Hawaii and opened Aigner's Gems International and Lane Ke Boutique. They lived in Hawaii for 35 years.
In 2009 Janet and Will moved to Missouri where they lived with her sister. Will passed away shortly afterward, in April of 2009. Janet spent 8 wonderful years with her sister where they shopped together, went to church together and played many a board game together.
In 2017 Janet moved to Fort Worth, Texas to live with her youngest son. She joined Gateway Church in Southlake, Texas where she attended regularly and sat with her good friend. They had their hair done together every Thursday and were affectionately known as "the Girls".
No services are planned at this time. Interment will be at a later date at Missouri Veterans Cemetery at Jacksonville, Missouri, with her husband, Willis.
