Born January 28, 1937, in Benton, Illinois.
Charles entered the U.S. Army on July 6, 1960, and retired at Fort Huachuca, Arizona, on April 30, 1986 following a career as a counterintelligence agent, prisoner of war interrogator, and all-source intelligence analyst. In addition to numerous assignments throughout the United States, his overseas duty tours included Korea, Okinawa, Vietnam, and Germany. His military awards include the Bronze Star, Air Medal, Army Commendation Medal, and Good Conduct Medal.
From May 1987 to June 2002, he was employed as a civilian instructor at the United States Army Intelligence Center at Fort Huachuca, where he taught various security topics to the Military Intelligence Officers Basic Course, MI Officers Advanced Course, and the enlisted Counterintelligence Agent Course. He retired from the second career as a GS-11.
Charles has been associated with the Cochise and Western Model Railroad Club in Sierra Vista since its inception. He loved model railroading, and his passion was displayed at home, as well as throughout the club.
Charles was preceded in death by his wife, Miyoko Izu, a native of Okinawa.
He is survived by a son, Jimmie L. Cole of Sierra Vista.
