The daughter of Emma Fredricka Caroline Kinder, Ramona was born and raised in Calhoun County, Illinois. She was the step-daughter of Raymond Richard Gallet.

She married Marlin H. Hagen on 20 Jun 1953 in Brussels, Illinois. They were the parents of 3 children.

Ramona was a homemaker. She worked at Jersey Community Hospital for 22 years in food service.

Marlin worked as a construction laborer. He was employed by Kane Mechanical in Wood River, Madison County, Illinois for 17 years.

Marlin died suddenly after a heart attack in 1982 at the age of 46.

Children from first marriage: 2 sons, 1 daughter.

Ramona married Louis B. "Louie" Van Hooser on 01 Oct 1988 at their home in Jerseyville, Illinois. Their attendants were Ramona's daughter, Sheri Smith, and Greg Burton.

Ramona and Louie divorced in October of 1990.

Children from second marriage: None.

Ramona shared her home with a very special friend, Charles Wesely Gibson, for a time. He was born in Ironton, Missouri on 08 Apr 1924 and was the son of Marion Francis Gibson and Della Mae McCullen. He was orphaned at the age of 13 when his mother was hit and killed by a truck as she was crossing the street in White Hall, Illinois.

Charles was a long-time automobile mechanic in Chicago, Illinois and then in Florida.

He died at Jersey Community Hospital in Jerseyville in September of 2000.

Ramona remained in her home for many years, tending to her lawn and garden with care. She was a member of Jerseyville First United Methodist Church.

She suffered a devastating loss in the spring of 2013 with the death of her only daughter. On the morning of Easter Sunday, Ramona left home to attend services while her 53-year-old daughter, Sheri, was preparing to visit a friend in Springfield, Illinois. When Ramona returned home from church, she made the terrible discovery that Sheri had passed away.

Health problems eventually forced Ramona to sell her home in Jerseyville and move to an apartment. She went into an assisted living home after that. As her health continued to deteriorate, she moved again to Jerseyville Manor Nursing Home in 2019. She died there at the age of 85 years, 1 month and 11 days.

She was survived by 2 sons and 2 daughters-in-law; 3 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and many extended family members and friends.

In addition to her first husband and daughter, Ramona was preceded in death by her mother and step-father.

Visitation was held on 06 Mar 2020 at Alexander Funeral Home. Funeral services were conducted there at 2 p.m. that afternoon.

The family requested that memorials, if desired, be made to the church or to the Jersey County Relay For Life.
