W.G. moved from Brown County, Texas to Montesano in January of 1889. His wife, Julia Frances (Groves) died from birthing their last child. The baby, David Edell, died shortly after in 9/15/1890. When W.G. died, the remaining 7 children became orphans. The Odd Fellows raised funds to finance their trip back to family in Texas. W.G.'s death notice in the Montesano Vidette newspaper stated he was quite a large man in height, measuring 6' 4 1/2".
