E. Whitfield Smith passed away at the age of 80 on February 23, 2020 in Bradenton, Florida where he wintered on his boat. Whitfield was born on June 25, 1939 in Prestonsburg, Kentucky to Carthel and Marguerite (Gorton) Smith. He attended Henry Clay High School and graduated from Eastern Kentucky University after having served in the U.S. Army. Whit owned and operated Lexington Outboard Marine and was a life long boating enthusiast. He was a past Commodore of the Lexington Yacht Club and a member of the Lexington Masonic Lodge No.1, Oleika Shrine and Civil War Round Table. He is survived by his son, Carthel (Lisa), and two granddaughters. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his two brothers, Carthel and Stephen, to whom he was devoted. A memorial graveside service will be held at Lexington Cemetery on Monday, March 2, 2020 at 2:00pm. Pallbearers include: John Gibson, Richard Flora, Danny Flora, Dr. Bill Collins, Robert Mosley, and Eddie Brisko. In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to Shriners Hospital: 110 Conn Terrace Lexington, KY 40508.
