JAMES BENNETT
James Bennett, 76, 1715 1/2 E. Millard St., died Monday in the Colonial Hill Health Care Center after an extended illness.

He was born in Hampton but had lived most of his life in Johnson City. Mr. Bennett was the son of the late Gilliam and Hester Barnett Bennett.

He was a retired employee of the city of Johnson City. Mr.. Bennett was a charter member of the East Watauga Avenue Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret Cox Bennett; one son, Jimmy Bennett, Johnson City, one daughter, Betty VanHuss, Johnson City; three brothers, Spencer and Robert Bennett, both of Johnson City, and Nalley Bennett, Hampton; one sister, Laura Murray, Johnson City; one grand-daughter; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be conducted Thursday at 2:00 p.m. from the East Watauga Ave. Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Monte Vista Burial Park.
