Mr. John Willie Donaldson, Sr., 82 of Savannah died Monday, May 3, 2004 at Candler Hospital.

He was born February 28, 1922 in Statesboro, Georgia to Leon and Mollie Donaldson.

He was a Veteran of WWII, spending two and a half years in the European theatre with the 8th and 9th Air Force. He graduated from Teacher's College High School in Statesboro and Draughn's Business College. He retired from Union Bag and Paper in the Mills Technical Department after 39 years of service in 1984. He was 48 year member of Victory Baptist Church and was currently serving as the Sunday School Superintendent and a Deacon.

He was longtime Shriner, serving as past president for the Alee Temple Carnival Unit and most recently he was involved with the Ritualistic Divan. He was a mason with the Thunderbolt Lodge #693 F & AM.. He was a member of the Moose Lodge, Eagle Lodge and the American Legion Post #184. He was very devoted to his family, working in his garden and fishing.

Surviving is his loving wife, Virginia Donaldson; son and daughter-in-law, John and Laura Donaldson, Jr. of Woodstock, GA; daughter, Ann Melvin, daughter, Susan Donaldson both of Savannah; son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Kathy Donaldson of Midway; daughter and son-in-law, Lynn and Bobby Melton of Savannah; grandchildren, Kevin and Karen Donaldson and Joseph and Rachel Melton; nephews, Edward and Tessa McBride of Bethesda, MD, Robert and Gail Sheppard of Cleveland, TN; niece, Rosemary and Neil Krikorian of Brewster, MA, and several other nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his beloved sisters, Ruby McBride and Mildred Stroud.

Visitation will be Thursday 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors Hodgson Chapel. Funeral service will be Friday, 11:00 a.m. at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors Hodgson Chapel with the Dr. Charles Cooper, Dr. Barry Minsky and Rev. Robert Tice officiating.

Burial will be in Hillcrest Abbey Memorial Park. Active Pallbearers will be the Deacons of Victory Baptist Church.
