In the 1900 Census, Mrs. Ayer's had stated she'd given birth to five children, three of whom were then still living. The two children who did not survive to the year 1900 were Nellie (d. 1880) and Hartley (d. 1881). In the 1910 Census, Mrs. Ayers stated she'd given birth to five children, only two of whom were then living. Son George Samuel Ayers had died in 1903, leaving only daughter Hattie (Harriett) Ayers Richards and son Frank Milton Ayers.

The last found of Mary Alice Ayers (aka Alice Mary Ayers) by Census was in Placerville in 1920. In 1922 she was listed in the Berkeley, Alameda County City Directory at the same address as daughter Hattie (Harriett) Richards. Hattie Ayers Richards and son Frank M. Ayers were both residing in Alameda County in the 1930 censuses of Berkeley and Oakland, respectively. No death notice or obituary has been located to indicate Mrs. Ayers date or place of death. The interment/burial register of the IOOF indicates she was buried in "Block 5, Lot 6, Grave 3, Ash (ashes)" on March 28, 1928.
It is most likely she was buried next to her husband or on top of his grave, either scenario would have satisfied the cultural practices of the time of her burial or inurnment.
On a map of the Fraternal organization cemeteries, likely dated to about 1965-1967 when Placerville Union Cemetery was incorporated as a private cemetery, the Ayers family plot is clearly shown in Lot 6 of Block 5. There are 9 Ayers family members or relations shown as occupying the graves in Lot 6. There are only six plots assigned to Lot 6, the heavier line beneath the name Henriette Hodgson, Alice Stanaway Ayer's sister, being the dividing line between Lot 6 of Block 5 and Lot 27 of Block 5 (Raffettos). One grave is shown as vacant, it being between Mary Ayers and George Ayers, although it is unclear if Mary as shown on the map was the wife of George or his mother Mary Alice Ayers.
