Virginia Smith Chase, 83, passed away February 9, 1992 in Salt Lake City.

Born March 21, 1908 in Salt Lake City, Utah the daughter of Alvin Fielding and Amelia Atkins Smith, granddaughter of President Joseph F. Smith, 6th President of the LDS Church. Married Paul Edwin Chase, September 16, 1930 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Paul passed away October 22, 1985. Graduated in business from West High School in 1925. Went to work as a secretary-bookkeeper for Nord Clothing Co. at age 17. Then employed by the Ladies Upstairs Clothes Shop, then Hibbs Clothing Company until 1939. Took time off to raise a family.

In 1957 went to work for Western Steel, then worked for Gritton & Wilde and then Gritton & Associates for over 25 years, retiring in 1985.

Helped organize the Salt Lake and Ogden Chapters of the Credit Womens Breakfast Club of North America, now known as Credit Women International. Served as president of the Salt Lake ''Sunup Chapter'' 1938-1939.

Member of the Stratford LDS Ward, having served in the presidency of the Ladies M.I.A., presidency of the Primary, as a Sunday School Teacher and a Relief Society Visiting Teacher. Helped organized the Cub Scout program in Highland Stake, served assistant to the Cub Master and as a Den Mother. She also served on the Highland Stake Primary Board. She a member of the Stratford Camp, Daughters of Utah Pioneers.

Member of the Flora Culture Garden Club having served as Treasurer several times. Worked in PTA at Highland Park Elementary School, Irving Junior High School, South High School and Highland High School.


Funeral Services were held on Wednesday, February 12, 1992 at 12 Noon in the Stratford LDS Ward Chapel, 2605 South 1500 East. Friends attended a Viewing at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 South Highland Drive on Tuesday Evening, from 6-8 P.M. and at the Church on Wednesday from 10:45-11:45 A.M. Prior To Services.
Graveside Services followed at the Salt Lake City Cemetery where she was buried.
