Both Sink To The Bottom.

Two Boys Drowned in a Mill Dam in Salisbury Township near South Hermitage.

On Sunday afternoon Wilson Robinson's son James, aged 14, and George W. Anne, aged 10, were drowned while bathing in Charles Hillard's mill dam, in Salisbury township. Anne lost his life in attempting to save his companion. Young Robinson was in the water by himself, and soon got beyond his depth. He began to tink (sic), and Anne ran to his assistance, Robinson caught him tightly round the neck and the result was that both were drowned. Anne was from the Childrens' Home in this city. He had been living with Mr. Hillard.

Coroner Honaman held an inquest on Monday. The verdict of the jury was accidental drowning. The body of Anne was brought to this city on Tuesday morning's train and taken to Woodward Hill cemetery for interment.

It seems that Robinson's father refused to allow the Coroner to hold an inquest on his son's body. The coroner came back, entered suit against Robinson before Alderman Spurrier, charging him with interfering with a public officer in the discharge of his duty, and accompanied by Officer Eicholtz went to see Mr. Robinson again on Tuesday. The presence of the officer showed Mr. Robinson that he had made a mistake, and he made no further objections to the inquest, which was held. Robinson has been held in bail for a hearing on the charge preferred by the Coroner. -- The Inquirer, Lancaster, Pennsylvania, 4Jul1885, p. 3.

Note: The Lititz Express listed his age as 12.
