Elaine H. Weiler nee Elliott, 88, welcomed the embrace of our Lord and Savior on Saturday, February 22, 2020, after a brief illness. She leaves behind grieving friends and family, all of whom are grateful she is now at peace, and all of whom have been blessed by her lifelong kindness and love.
Born in Arlington Heights, Illinois, and raised on the south side of Chicago, Mom was affectionately known as “hillbilly” at Blue Island High School due to her love of what came to be called country and western music. She became a “single mom” at a time when not only had the term not been invented, but the concept was virtually unknown. Sacrifice and selflessness were her routine, as she devoted her life to her children. She often worked a night job in addition to her secretarial job with Nabisco in order to provide her three children with a better life. She met every challenge life handed her with courage and stoicism, instilling in us all the belief that we could achieve anything we wanted, encouraging all we did along the way.
It didn’t take long upon meeting her for Mom to become everyone’s Mom. She embraced everyone she met, charming them all with her smile and good humor. Before age sapped her health and strength, she enjoyed nothing more than hanging out with her kids and their friends, enjoying food, fun and the occasional adult beverage. She delighted in her grandchildren and later 12 great-grandchildren who lovingly referred to her as “GiGi.” She loved people and loved life and relished every moment she could spend with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren until the very end. She lived her life making others happy, a truly loving and very special lady. In a life well lived, she made a difference in every life she touched. Her undying legacy is love for and pride in her family, to which she dedicated her entire life, and we are all better thanks to her love and devotion and her sacrifices for us. We will miss, but never forget all that she did for us, and her memory will live forever in our hearts.
She leaves surviving two sons, Rory (Sue) Weiler, Joel (Therese) Weiler and a daughter, Laurie Ann Delgado, along with six grandchildren, Tim (Meghan) Weiler, Ross (Kristen) Weiler, Joshua (Christy) Patton, Melissa (John) Morgan, Corine Weiler and Danielle (Jesse) Johnston. She now joins in heaven her beloved granddaughter Bridget Weiler. Her twelve great grandchildren Aubree Johnston, Cameron Johnston, Emma Johnston, Lincoln Morgan, Tyler Morgan, Caleb Patton, McKenna Patton, Cheyenne Strang, Nathan Strang, Eleanor Weiler, Claire Weiler and Amelia Weiler also survive her.
Memorial visitation will be held from 4:00 P.M. until 6:30 P.M. on Tuesday, February 25, 2020 at Moss Family Funeral Home, 209 S. Batavia Ave., Batavia, IL. 60510. A memorial service will follow visitation at 6:30 P.M. also at the funeral home. Interment will be held privately at Chapel Hill Garden South Cemetery in Oak Lawn, IL.
Memorial donations in Elaine’s name may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church, 950 Hart Rd, Batavia, IL 60510.
