Barbara Eugenia Welker, daughter of Otto and Mary (Lucke) Welker, was born June 3, 1921, on a farm near Farmer, SD. She attended school in Farmer and later graduated from Edgerton Consolidated High School in 1939. Barbara then worked as an nanny for the owners of the Lemond’s Tea Room at Shrivers Department Store.

She was united in marriage to Marvin Stofferahn on August 26, 1941 in Lennox, SD. The couple then made their home on a farm south of Sioux Falls for the next 25 years. During that time four children, Joan, Gary, Terry and Ken, were born and raised. The couple then moved into Sioux Falls in 1966 where Barbara worked as an seamstress at Raven Industries for the next 18 years, retiring in 1984.

Barbara was an active member of Christ the King Parish for over 52 years. During retirement she pursued hobbies of quilting, sewing, gardening and baking. She moved to the Prince of Peace community in 2018.

Barbara was devoted to her family, her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a woman of deep faith, and generously used her time and talents to help not just her family but others in need in the community. She will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her.

Grateful for having shared her life are her children, Joan Etbauer, Waldorf, MD, Gary (Lee Ann) Stofferahn, DeSmet, SD, Terry Stofferahn, Lake Norden, SD, Ken (Pam) Stofferahn, Ridgway, CO; 7 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
