William “Bill” Jackson Free, Sr., 69, formerly of 4717 Old Laurens Road, widower of Gail Fenner Free, died Sunday, September 15, 2019 at Emerald Gardens.
Born in Greenwood, he was the son of the late Ben Davis Free, Sr. and Laura Wells Snead Free. Bill was a U S Army veteran having served during Vietnam Era. He received his civil engineering degree from Clemson University where he was a devoted alumni and Tiger fan. He worked on the Alaska pipeline, where he met the love of his life, Gail. Later he worked for Fluor Daniels as a project manager where he worked in many countries around the world. He was a member of Coronaca Baptist Church.
Surviving are his children, Jackson Free of Greenwood and Bonnie Pearson (Russell) of Simpsonville; two brothers, Dave Free (Vaughan) and Randy Free, both of Greenwood; three grandchildren, Hannah, Jordan and John Pearson, all of Simpsonville.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday at Harley Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Todd Polatty officiating.
