This cenotaph for Rachel Corrie, whose cremated remains are with family, was unveiled on the anniversary of her death in 2009. It lies alongside other cenotaphs to the memory of martyrs.

According to Mohammad Mohammadi, a spokesman for the Islamic Movement for Martyrs' Campaign, “Twelve martyrs of the Islamic World Movement of various Palestinian, Egyptian, Lebanese, and even an Iranian martyrs who have been martyred in Najaf Ashraf in defense of the sacred and have never returned to Iran, are seen among these iconic tombstones. These are a demonstration of the blood of the martyrs of the Islamic Revolution and the sacred defense of the martyrs of the Islamic World Movement” and that anyone killed in the defense of Palestine is a martyr. He said Corrie sympathized with the pain of the Palestinian people.

Rachel was killed by an armored bulldozer as she and other activists tried to prevent Israeli military from razing Palestinian homes. An alley in Teheran near Argentina Square is named for her.

The memorial stone pictures Rachel in a hijab, which she did not wear in life, and is inscribed in Farsi, Arabic and English. Rachel is Memorial ID 7287705.
