Violet A. Lindner of Port Washington passed away on Wednesday, February 12, 2020 at the young age of 103. She was born in Milwaukee on July 1, 1916. She married Robert Lindner on February 16, 1936 and they moved to Port Washington from Milwaukee in 1937, and together had two children.
At 103, Violet lived through a number of historical events including seventeen presidents of the United States. She experienced the Great Depression and had a Great Aunt who was on the Titanic.
Violet (Grandma Vi, as she was known to many) was a stay at home mom and took care of her grandchildren as they grew up. Vi, took a special passionate interest in the genealogy of her family. She enjoyed crocheting in her free time, and she had a love for animals, especially dogs. Violet was an Eastern Star and enjoyed serving her community as she volunteered to work numerous voting polls (when they had to hand count the ballots). She also was an avid Packers fan as her Sunday norm was to wear her green and gold beads, Aaron Rodgers jersey, a Packers cardigan, and Packers socks to support her favorite team. For Violet’s 100th birthday, Violet received a signed Aaron Rodgers picture wishing her a happy birthday.
Violet’s character was second to none. She was a loving woman who only saw the good in everyone. Valentine’s Day was her favorite holiday and she treasured her family collection of Valentines that were over 100 years old. Her loving spirit overwhelmed every heart she encountered. Violet will be greatly missed.
Violet leaves behind, her daughter Gayle Wellenstein of Port Washington; grandchildren, Jeffrey (Jennifer) Wellenstein of California, Jason (Leeann) Wellenstein of Port Washington, Jaymee (Aaron) Richards of Fredonia, Christopher (Melissa) Wellenstein of Port Washington and Todd (Mary) Lindner of Arizonia; great-grandchildren, Kole Wellenstein, Logan & Mayah Richards, Addison & Austin Wellenstein, Oliver & Lucy Wellenstein, Andrew (Julia) Lindner, Daniel (Elizabeth) Lindner, Katlyn Jones, Caitline Treichel, Alexis Lindner, and four great-great grandchildren. She is further survived by nephew, Tom (Sharon) Jacob and niece Linda (Bill) Millen.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Robert, her son Gary Lindner, son-in-law Robert Wellenstein, grandson Kevin Lindner, brother Charles Gans, in-laws Lillian and Conrad Lindner, sister-in-law Dorothy Jacob and nephew Ron Jacob.
A Memorial Service for Violet will be held at 5:00 PM on Friday, February 21, 2020 at Eernisse Funeral Home (1600 W. Grand Ave. Port Washington, WI 53074). Family will receive visitors at the funeral home from 3:00pm until the time of service. Violet will be laid to rest at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Port Washington.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Wisconsin Humane Society Ozaukee Campus, Friedens Evangelical Church, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to administration and employees at Harbor Club for their incredible compassion, kindness and support over the last four years.
