"Donald F. "Don" Braun, 86, passed away unexpectedly at home on Monday, February 17, 2020. Don was born on June 29, 1933 in Wayland to the late Albert & Anna (Fisher) Braun. Don earned his Bachelor's degree from Alfred and was a self-employed general contractor. Don was a collector of everything. He liked watching Syracuse Basketball and NASCAR. Don was a community man and was a life member of the Shriners and Masons and the Scottish Rite, life member the Naples Fire Dept., where he also served as chief, he was the Mayor of Naples three different times. Don was one of the men who built the Redwood Restaurant in Naples and helped his family run the diner when it first opened, finished constructing the chalet at Widmer Winer Cellars (now known as Hazlitt's Red Cat Cellars). He played a large role in starting the very popular Naples Grape Festival, was the first president of the National Honor Society at Naples Central School, class of '51. Don was a religious man and started attending church at the age of 12, making him a 74 year member of the Naples Presbyterian Church, now the Trinity Federated Church. Though Don was an accomplished man, he most enjoyed spending time with his wife, children, and many many friends within the Naples community. In addition to his parents, Don is also predeceased by his sister: Sally; his brothers: Gary & Darryl (Sally) Braun; and his nephew: Jeff Braun. Don leaves behind his loving and devoted wife of 52 years, Joann and his four children: Cheri (Gary) Fitzpatrick, "ED" (Nancy) Mortensen, Don Michael (Kristina) Braun and Holli (Jason) Wint."
