Glenys Uldine McElroy, 85, of Ottumwa, died at 4:15 p.m. February 16, 2020 at Good Samaritan Society-Ottumwa.

She was born August 8, 1934 in Ottumwa to Harold and Helen Lukens Judd. She married Leo McElroy on June 13, 1953 and he preceded her in death on June 9, 2013.

A 1952 graduate of Ottumwa High School, Glenys had been a resident of Ottumwa all of her life. In 1967 she began working at the Ottumwa School Employees Credit Union and retired as manager in 1992. She had been a member of Wesley United Methodist Church and was a member of B.P.O. Elks Lodge #347 Auxiliary. Glenys bowled for many years and served as secretary/treasurer of multiple bowling leagues. Glenys was an avid reader, enjoyed camping and spent many years riding motorcycles with Leo, loved going to grandkids sporting events and dance recitals and loved spending time with her family.

Surviving are her three children; Becky (Don) Rupe of Eldridge, Doug (Lisa) McElroy of Ottumwa and Julie (Steve) Rogers of Norwalk; 7 grandchildren, Amy Clayton, Tony (Elisabeth) Rupe, Rachel (Coady) Spurgeon, Kaitlin (Tyler) Craff, Kaylee (Stephen) Onnen, Kristi Rogers (Kyle Close) Tayler (Robert) Walker; 9 great-grandchildren, Jayden and Tayja Clayton, Jacob and Kayla Rupe, Elleigh, Ava and River Spurgeon, Finnick Onnen and Dawson Close; 3 brothers, Dennis (Betty) Thompson of Avery, Darrell (Kathy) Thompson of Hedrick and Bion Thompson of Albia; special friends, Alice (Jerry) Richardson and Bette Williams.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Gary VanNess and Bruce Thompson.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Mel Kendall officiating. Cremation will follow the services. Visitation begins at noon Thursday with the family present from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday. Memorials may be made to Heartland Humane Society.
