Born in Boone County on March 20, 1916, he was the son of the late Charles and Flora Eva (Crask) Newman. He married Mary Jane (Cochran) Newman in Covington on March 2, 1935; she died on March 24, 2005.
Newman was reared and educated in Boone County where he attended Kirklin schools. He moved to Lebanon in 1948 and resided there for 59 years until his death. He was employed as a receiving clerk for 40 years at Stewart Warner. He later worked at Witham Memorial Hospital in the housekeeping department from 1978 to 1983.
He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. His hobbies were woodworking, jigsaw puzzles, and watching western and game shows. He also enjoyed bowling and was a fan of basketball and baseball. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Gadsden.
Survivors are children Rosalie Wallace and Gerald M. Newman and wife Donna L., all of Lebanon, and Everett L. Newman and wife Donna S. of Thorntown; grandchildren Dennis Wallace of Carrollton, Ky., Terry Wallace, Lisa Galvin and Anita Wolfe of Lebanon, Tim Wallace of Danville, Ky., Rhonda Minear of Trafalgar, David Newman of Crawfordsville and Teresa Huber of Indianapolis; great-grandchildren Brad Wallace, Stacy Wallace, Shellie Wallace, Stephanie Wallace, Leanne Wallace, Jessica Jewell, Aaron Galvin, Brian Galvin, Whitney Galvin, Matthew Dean, Adam Dean, Seth Newman, Sara Huber, Emily Huber and Katie Huber; and great-great-grandchildren Seth Savage, Serenity Jewell and Carter Galvin. A great-granddaughter, Amy Minear, one brother, Robert Newman, and one sister, Hassell N. McIntyre, are deceased.
