I spent many Sunday afternoons visiting with my Mother or my Step Grandmother, asking questions and getting them to tell me stories, I would like to pass parts of these stories along for others to read if you would like to post them on their memorials.

Stories that my mother Luvena Baughman McKnight shared with me about her great-grandfather John Wesley Baughman.

John Wesley Baughman had white hair, white Mustache and white chin whiskers, sharp brown eyes about medium height and slight of build. He walked with a cane. He was in the Civil War and I think he fought for the south. We visited them often and he always played and tossed me in the air, he always called me his "ole mean girl".

There was a spring that ran across the road between where we lived and their house, this is where we all went for water. One day while playing in the water my brand-new-ring slipped off my finger and a duck grabbed it and ate it. My Great-grandfather bought me another to replace that one that the duck ate.

When our family left Arkansas we went to see them for the last time ever. I cried and had a fit because I didn't want to go off and leave them.. We were all heart broken. They left Arkansas in the summer of 1919. I was about 5 or 6 years old at the time. When they died none of us were able to go back to Arkansas to attend their funerals. I was about 8 or 9 years old when he died. I remember we received a letter in the mail with a black boarder drawn around it, so my folks knew someone had died.
