William A. Burridge, Jr., 86, of Bear Creek Township, died Thursday, July 26, 2007, at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

Born in Bear Creek Township, he was a son of the late William A. Burridge Sr. and Dora Park Burridge.

He was a lifelong resident of Bear Creek Township and attended Oliver School.

He worked for the Hazard Wire Rope Company, Wilkes-Barre, for several years.

During World War II he served with Co. D, 703rd Military Police Battalion. He protected the Pentagon and the White House in Washington, D.C., and was also stationed in North Africa, receiving the Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.

Prior to his retirement, he had been a tile setter with Local 18, Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers Union, Harrisburg, for more than 50 years.

He was a member of the Messiah Primitive Methodist Church, Bear Creek, and was a member of the former Bear Creek Township Post 58, American Legion.

He was preceded in death by his wife of almost 52 years, Dureatha M. Belles Burridge; brothers, Harry and Donald Burridge.

He is survived by daughter, Sandra L. Newhart and her husband, James, of Bethlehem; sons, Glen A. Burridge and his wife, Robin, of Dorrance, Richmond Burridge and his wife, Suzanne, of Bear Creek Township, and William A. Burridge III and his wife, Lisa, of Slocum; sisters, Mrs. Jo Ann English, of Bear Creek Township, Mrs. Annette Wasickanin, of Syracuse, N.Y., and Mrs. Doris Edwards, of Newark, Del.; 12 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday from the H. Merritt Hughes Funeral Home Inc., 451 N. Main St., Wilkes-Barre, with the Rev. David Elick, pastor, New Life Community Church, Mountain Top, officiating.

Interment will be in Memorial Shrine Cemetery, Carverton. Friends may call Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 4 to 7 p.m.

The family requests that flowers be omitted and that memorial donations be made to Messiah
