Nettie Grace (Barnes) Gill of Cozad passed away Friday, February 14, 2020 at Cozad Community Hospital at the age of 95. Nettie Grace was born in Winona County, Missouri to Richard Barnes and Pauline (Brawley) Barnes. She attended Banner Public School in Missouri until she and her mother moved to Fort Collins, Colorado. Nettie Grace worked at several jobs in Walden and Gould, Colorado, including working on ranches and at FE Warren Air Force Base in Cheyenne, Wyoming at the beginning of the war.

In 1943, Nettie Grace and her mother moved to Cozad, Nebraska where her mother married Ernest Landercasper in 1944. Nettie Grace helped work on their farm until 1949 when she married Charles Gill. She worked and lived on the same farm of rural Cozad until her death.

She will be remembered for always being available to help neighbors and family in any and all situations. She also loved to travel and drive around the country and to town when working on the farm as well as into retirement. She was one of the few women that helped with the irrigation on the farm, including carrying and setting tubes, setting up plastic damns and driving tractors and equipment in the day to day operation of the farm.

Nettie Grace was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Gill; parents, Ernest and Pauline Landercasper and Richard and Leona Barnes; brothers, V.E. and Clara Barnes, Lester and Betty Barnes; and sister, Ruby and Walcot Tucker.

She is survived by her sons, Jerry and Tami Carmack of Cabool, MO and Lynnis Gill of Overton, NE; grandsons, Roger Carmack of Rockville, MD, Adam Gill and Robin Crowley of Elm Creek, NE and Josh Gill of Overton, NE; great granddaughter, McKinzy Gill of Overton, NE; brothers, Jack and Judy Barnes of Birch Tree, MO and Gary and Linda Barnes of Winona, MO; sister, Mrs. Betty Grip of Athens, GA; along with countless cousins, nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held Tuesday, February 18, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Cozad Cemetery with Words of Comfort by Rex Robison. Berryman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
