He was the son of the late George Washington and Mamie Ella Brewer Alston. He was preceded in death by his son, Jermal Alston and his sister, Georgia Mae Alston. He was survived by his wife, Mary P. Alston; daughter, Chreatha Annette Alston; three grandchildren; one granddaughter; four sisters, Josephine, Patricia, Carolyn (Rory) and Heather Renee "Renee" Dowdy (Shawn); brother, Donald Alston; two aunts, Macie Hadley and Gretchen Alston; five nephews; and six nieces.
