Me'eau Ka'ulumaikaaloa Bal was pure kanaka maoli (Native Hawaiian). She was born around 1825 in the Kingdom of Hawaii on Maui island, Lahaina under the rule of Kamehameha III. Her father was Kane Kaunu and her mother was Wahine Kueli. Me'eau married Eugene P. Bal of La Teste, Dept of Gironde, France, who had immigrated to the Kingdom of Hawaii and who became a Hawaiian national. Eugene P. Bal was from France, however, his parents were from Belgium and of Dutch decent. Me'eau and Eugene had a daughter, Zelie Kailimeau Bal, born Nov. 23, 1858, who would go on to marry Joseph Lima, a Kingdom of Hawaii national from Portugal. Me'eau passed away approx. in 1880. Her daughter Zelie passed away on Aug. 10, 1906.
