Conrad was born on March 15, 1872 in Neusatz Parish, Russia. He came with his parents, Conrad & Katherina (Hoff) Reiswig, from Herrendank, Russia on the Ship Suevia and entered the New York harbor on May 10, 1876.

His family homesteaded near Milltown, Hutchinson County, South Dakota. In about 1893 he married Paulene Bechthold, daughter of Henry M. and Philipena (Schindler) Bechthold, also of Hutchinson County, South Dakota.

Conrad and Pauline had six children. Those born in Hutchinson County, South Dakota were: Henry Cecil, born December 4, 1894; and Louise Emma, born August 26, 1896. Born in Lincoln Township, Sheridan County, North Dakota were: Olivia, born April 14, 1900; Charles, born in 1902; Hattie Evelyn, born February 16, 1904; and Emil E., born July 16, 1906.

In 1898, Conrad, his wife, and their children migrated from South Dakota to Lincoln Township, Sheridan County (then McLean County), ND with his brother George, George's family, and Fred Bentz. The two brothers founded Lincoln (subsequently Lincoln Valley) which was platted from part of Conrad's original 160 acre homestead.

In 1900 Conrad built the first frame house, barn, and other buildings in Lincoln.

In 1901 he established the first store and the first post office in Lincoln Valley, ND. In 1906 he sold his interest in the Lincoln Valley store to his junior partners, Jacob and John Schmidt.

In January of 1906, Christian, C. C.'s brother, opened the Reiswig General Store in McClusky, North Dakota. We know that Conrad and Christian bought a farm together, south of McClusky, in December of 1905, just before Christian's store opened. We believe that after Conrad sold his store in Lincoln Valley, the two of them worked together. Christian ordered goods that Conrad sold by wagon in the Lincoln Valley area. In the 1910 Census, Conrad said that his profession was Real Estate. The 1914 land records of Sheridan County show that Conrad did own a number of farms in the Lincoln Valley area.

We do not know when Conrad & his family moved from Lincoln Valley to Harvey, ND. In the 1930 Census, in Harvey, Conrad states that his profession is a Grocery Salesman.
